Another four years has brought us the spectacular spectacle that is the … well, for the sake of my not wanting to get a visit from the IOC, I’ll just refer to it as The Event. The Event’s organizers tend to frown upon their terms and logos being used by non-sponsors, and I am going to be respectful of that. You know what I’m talking about though; it comes around every four years, there’s a torch involved, lots of athletes and diplomats attend.
Now that the formalities are out of the way, I’ll get to why I’m writing this piece and how it ties into a subject I’m pretty well immersed in.
Becoming an athlete at The Event’s level is the pinnacle of all endurance tests. Those looking to jump into video marketing should see their goals in the same way. Think about it; there’s no way someone who’s spent the last 10 years doing nothing more than sitting on the sofa, eating potato chips can come in an compete at The Event.
Video marketing should be approached the way Eventians go about their planning, training and regimens to stay in peak physical condition. While it’s easy to implement a video marketing/video email marketing strategy with mailVU, recognize that, like these athletes, you should take the time to perform at your absolute best.
Planning should include creating a sketch of what you want to cover in your video. Keep in mind that your recording has to be long enough that you convey all the information your recipient will need without them tuning you out because the video drones on for too long.
Training comes in as you practice your video pitches until they’re perfected and ready to be shared via video email or on your website.
Regimentation will be your schedule of sending video messages out to your adoring public. You can’t stop after sending out just one, especially if the one you send is well-received. Begin working on others, and make modifications to fix any weak areas.
Here’s an example of a recording done and distributed with mailVU’s online video platform:

While watching The Event over the next couple of weeks, understand that the participants didn’t just get there overnight. It took work, lots of dedication, and commitment – the same elements that apply to your video marketing methods.
