Popular web conferencing service GoToMeeting (GTM) offers users the ability to record sessions in the company’s proprietary format or in “wmv” format. While GTM’s instructions state that recipients of wmv files will not need to have the proprietary G2M2 video codec installed on their computers, they don’t tell you that this codec is not compatible with most video editing services or tools. If you record a GTM event, want to edit portions of it and distribute the video to others, you must first strip out the G2M2 codec.

Recognizing the video codec issue, we re-encoded the file, removing the proprietary G2M2 codec. The file was successfully uploaded into the client’s account for distribution.
