Distribute GoToMeeting Recordings Through mailVU

Popular web conferencing service GoToMeeting (GTM) offers users the ability to record sessions in the company’s proprietary format or in “wmv” format While GTM’s instructions state that recipients of wmv files will not need to have the proprietary G2M2 video codec installed on their computers, they don’t tell you that this codec is not compatible with most video editing services or tools. If you record a GTM event, want to edit portions of it and distribute the video to others, you must first strip out the G2M2 codec.

We recently assisted a mailVU Business Plan customer who wanted to edit their GTM recording, upload it to their account, and video email it to new clients. Recognizing the video codec issue, we re-encoded the file, removing the proprietary G2M2 codec. The file was successfully uploaded into the client’s account for distribution. Another advantage of mailVU’s encoding process is that the uploaded GTM video is available in MP4 and FLV formats. The ability to download videos in these formats is a standard feature of the Business Plan, making it easy to use in any video-editing program.

Once a GTM video is uploaded to your account, it may be emailed, a short URL link can be created for Twitter or SMS messaging, or it can be embedded into websites or e-newsletters. Do you record GoToMeeting sessions? Would you like the ability to edit and distribute them? mailVU’s Business Plan makes it easy!

Our Business Plan provides a robust online video platform that makes it easy to record or upload videos, place a branded template around your video message, download videos, or embed videos onto your website.
