Educators have increasingly been using mailVU to communicate with students, particularly for language learning. While often used on a stand alone basis, mailVU also makes it easy to incorporate video messages into existing Learning Management Systems (LMS), including Blackboard, Moodle, Angel, and GoCourse. This post will provide step-by-step instructions for embedding your mailVU videos into Blackboard discussion forums. (Blackboard version 9.1 was used for the screenshots.)
mailVU Embed Instructions for Teachers:
Log into Blackboard and click on one of your courses.
On the lower left of the screen, click on Course Tools, and then select Discussion Board from the drop down list.
Click on the desired Discussion Board and create a Forum.
Create a new Thread. Once the editor opens up, click <> to enter HTML mode.
Go to your mailVU account and click on the Web button in the Embed column.
Size the video as desired and click Copy to Clipboard to obtain the HTML code.
Go back to your Blackboard Forum Thread and paste the HTML code into the editor. Click Submit.
Your mailVU video will now be embedded into the discussion thread so everyone in the group will be able to view it.
The process is very easy and fast once you have the hang of it!
mailVU Embed Instructions for Students:
If you don’t have a paid mailVU account you can still insert mailVU videos into Blackboard by using the recording’s short URL link. The short URL can be obtained by clicking on the Link button in your Free account, or by the Share button if recording directly from mailVU.com. Simply paste the link into the Blackboard discussion threads and others will be able to click on the link to see your video response. Here is an example:
